Sorin Alexandrescu
Literary Critic and Theoretician
Professor at Amsterdam University

Born: August 18, 1937, in Bucharest. Son of Corina Eliade, sister of the Romanian professor, historian of religious and writer, Mircea Eliade


  • 1959 - graduate of the Faculty of Philology, Bucharest University


  • emigrated in the years '70 in Netherlands, where he works as professor at the University of Amsterdam, hosting one of the biggest department of Romanian studies from Europe
  • dedicated his activity to the semiotics and history of ideas
  • after 1990, comes back to Romania and commits himself to the restoration and modernization of the Central University Library, destroyed by a devastating fire during the Romanian Revolution of December 1989
