Radu CIOREI
Musical Conductor
Born: 28 Mai 1952, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Studies
- Radu Ciorei studied conducting at the Music Academy in his native city,
with Emil Simon,
before going on to master classes in Weimar (Germany), with Igor
Markevich, Kurt Masur and Otmar Suitner
Artistic Career
- While still a student, founded the chamber orchestra
"Intermezzo", wich gave nearly 80 concerts throughout the
country, including a performance in 1979 at a Festival in Cluj which he
founded
- 1976 - appointed Conductor of The Lyric Theater of Craiova
- 1985 - appointed Conductor of The Opera of Constanta, assuming the additional
duties of Manager(1990-1991)
- After a full decade dedicated to opera
performance, during which he directed more than 500 performances ,including
many of most popular operas, he returned to the stage as Manager(1991-2001)
and Conductor(1991- ) of The "Black Sea "Philharmonic of
Constanta, where he has built a formidable ensemble with a broad,
adventurous repertoire.
- His achievements have been recognized frequently by foreign journalists,
who have described him as a "poet of the baton" whose
performances have featured a rare mixture of technical perfection and
warm, sensitive interpretations

- The Mayor of Murfreesboro (U.S.) presented him with the "Key to the
City" on the occasion of his performances there

Recording Activity

Several CDs, including "The Seasons" by Vivaldi with violinist
Cristina Anghelescu, popular overtures with Thalassa Records Constanta
- With The "Black Sea"Philharmonic Constanta he has given more 250
concerts and recorded several CD's, including "The Seasons" by
Vivaldi, "Famous ouvertures" -with "Thalassa Records
Constanta" and 2 CD's with Contemporary American works- whit "Capstone
Records" ,New York. He has also conducted numerous world premieres by
Romanian and American composers.
