DIPLOMATIC CAREER
1990 - joins the Foreign Service, immediately after the Romanian Revolution of December 1989. Has rapidly risen to the position of Director of European Affairs Department (NATO, European Community,
OSCE, WEU, Council of Europe), asserting himself as an expert on Trans-Atlantic integration
1991 - headed the Romanian Delegation to the CSCE Committee of Senior Officials
1993-1995 - Spokesman for the Romanian Foreign Ministry
1994 - Director General for Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1995 - Director General for Europe, North America, Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa
February 1996 - December 2000 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the United States of America. At
age 37, he was the youngest ambassador in the Romanian diplomatic corps
March 2000 - received the rank of Ambassador, the highest position in the Romanian diplomatic corps
Since December 2000 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania. In this capacity, starting January 1,
2001 till December 2001 served as OSCE Chairman-in-Office
DIDACTIC & PUBLISHING ACTIVITY
Prior to his arrival in Washington D.C., he served as professor at the National School for Political and Administration Sciences and the ”Nicolae Titulescu” University in
