Professional Career

A career diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania since university graduation until 1988, when was fired out from the Ministry for his endeavors to strengthen the ties with western countries. He had also an extended academic activity:

  • 1954-1957 - Lecturer, Institute of International Relations, Bucharest
  • 1954-1957 - Attaché in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • 1957-1961 - Third Secretary, Embassy of Romania to Beijing
  • 1961-1963 - Second Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • 1963 (April) - Member of the Romanian Delegation to the World Conference on Science and Technology, Geneva
  • 1963-1966 - First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Romania to the United Nations, New York
  • 1963-1964 - Member of the Romanian delegations to the annual sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations, representative of Romania in the Fourth Committee for Colonial Affairs
  • 1965-1966 - Member of the Romanian delegations to the annual sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations, representative in the Third Committee for Social and Humanitarian Affairs

  • 1988-1989 - editor, Enterprise for Petro-Chemical Products Transport and Packaging 
  • December 1989 - joined the Revolution and struggled for Romania's integration into the European and Trans-Atlantic structures
  • January 1990-July 1990 - Ambassador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • July 1990-May 1991 - Secretary of State at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Member of Government
  • 1990 - Romania's Chief negotiator at the Warsaw Pact Countries meetings for the elaboration of the Protocol providing for Warsaw Pact dissolution
  • 1991 - Member of the delegation accompanying the Prime Minister of Romania at the first visit at this level to the European Union and NATO Headquarters in Brussels, for talks concerning Romania's integration into these two organizations
  • 1991-1996 - Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Romania to UN Office and Specialized International Organizations in Geneva
  • 1991-1996 - Deputy Head of the Romanian delegations to the annual sessions of the World Health Organization, International Labor Organization, International Migration Organization, High Commissioner for Refugees, World Meteorological Organization and other international organizations in Geneva

  • 1996, April-May - Head of the Romanian Delegation to the 6th UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD X), Midrand, South Africa
  • 1996-2000 - Member of the Chamber of Deputies on behalf of Dambovita PDSR Ward

Parliamentary Activity

November 1996 - elected member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania on behalf of the Social Democracy Party of Romania, Dambovita Ward, for the legislature 1996-2000. In this capacity, performed the following main responsibilities:
  • Vice-President of the Foreign Policy Commission of the Chamber of Deputies
  • Member of the Parliamentary Commission for European Integration
  • President of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with the Philippines
  • Member of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Hungary

Marital Status

Married for over 40 years to Lucia, who graduated from the Institute of Applied Arts in Beijing and taught Ceramics at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest  for over 30 years. She has a book under print "CERAMICS - CRAFT, ART AND SCIENCE" at ALL Publishing House.

A daughter, Adriana  and a son, Razvan, both currently living in the United States.

Adriana and her husband both work for MICROSOFT as program managers and have a young son. Razvan graduated with Master in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and now is an entrepreneur working with multimedia - 2d and 3d graphics and animations. Most recently worked on user interfaces for computer game companies and multimedia website design
